As the demand for plant-based foods increases, plant-based seafood analogs have also grown in popularity across the globe.
- On 11 January, the Netherlands-based Schouten Europe announced its launch of plant-based fish fillets. The cod analog weighs 120 grams and has a wheat and rice base. The company said that the new product is intended to mimic the taste and texture of cod.
- Canned fish producer Karavela, based in Riga, Latvia, announced it is looking for business partners and distributors in the U.K. and Germany for its plant-based seafood analog products. In 2022, it launched the F’SH PEAS product line, which consists of canned spreads, flakes, and salads as seafood analogs. Karavela aims to expand its seafood analog products to the U.K. and German markets in 2022.
- Aqua Cultured Foods has begun building a new facility in West Carroll, Illinois, U.S.A. to manufacture plant-based seafood analogs. According to Food Engineering, the new facility will be around three times the size of its former headquarters.
- NH Foods (known as Nippon Ham), a Japanese food manufacturer, announced 17 January it has succesfully developed plant-based seafood analogs for fish fries and popcorn shrimp after a year of trials. The company plans to start selling the products in March 2023.
