Luke’s promotes lobster for white elephant gifts; Fresh Market touts New Year’s seafood platters

The  Live Lobster White Elephant Kit from Luke's Lobster

Jumping on a social media trend, Saco, Maine, U.S.A.-based Luke’s Lobster is promoting its lobster as a perfect gift for a white elephant holiday gift exchange.

Luke's Lobster recently began selling a Live Lobster White Elephant Kit on its website after a TikTok video featuring a family white elephant swap involving a live lobster went viral. The video has more than 651,000 likes to date and served as inspiration for the White Elephant Kit, according to Luke’s Vice President of Marketing Meaghan Dillon.

"We can't think of a better white elephant gift than some feisty Maine lobsters, so we had to jump in on this viral moment,” Dillon told SeafoodSource.

The limited-time package includes two lobsters nestled in a “ready-to-wow cooler with a festive ribbon – perfect for surprising friends and family this holiday,” a spokesperson for Luke’s said. The last day to place an order to ensure the White Elephant gift for a pre-Christmas arrival was 20 December, but the kit will remain available to order after that.

Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A.-based Legal Sea Foods is also touting three new lobster boxes for “your holiday table or those last-minute holiday gifts,” the company said in an email to customers. The boxes include The Lobster Tail Box, The Grilling Feast Box, and the Filet Mignon & Lobster Tail Kit.

Additionally, the Maine Lobster Marketing Collaborative (MLMC) is touting specials from numerous lobster sellers through its 2023 gift guide.

Meanwhile, The Fresh Market in Greensboro, North Carolina, U.S.A., is offering a wide selection of party platters and brunch meals for pre-order to “help make meal planning for the week between Christmas and New Year's a breeze and to help ring in the new year with style and ease,” the company said in a press release.

New to its platters this year, The Fresh Market is selling Mini Maryland Crab CakeMini Ultimate Crab Cake, and Mini Wild Salmon Cake Platters.
