Massachusetts, U.S.A.-based seafood importer Stavis Seafoods has earned the British Retail Consortium’s (BRC) Global Standard for Food Safety certification for its Boston facility, the company announced on Sunday, 11 March, during Seafood Expo North America 2018.
The company underwent a rigorous third-party audit to achieve recognition from BRC, which is renowned for its food safety and quality certification program. Several areas of Stavis Seafoods’ operations were examined and evaluated during the BRC audit, including the company’s approach to food safety and HACCP programs, quality management systems, manufacturing processes, supply chain transparency, label and packaging standards, product and process controls, recall security, traceability programs, and senior management’s commitment to BRC standards.
The vertically-integrated business will use its newly-minted BRC certification to reinforce to its customer base Stavis Seafoods’ commitment to food safety, hygiene, and quality, said Charles Marble, the company’s newly-appointed CEO.
“Stavis Seafoods has always been committed to maintaining the highest standards for food safety, hygiene and quality control,” Marble said. “The certification shows our customers our efforts regarding quality, safety and operational standards. It will also create more opportunities for our company and partners by attracting new national and international customers. Stavis Seafoods’ headquarters and BRC-certified facility are located in the Port of Boston. The company also operates Stavis Peabody, a 40,000 square foot warehousing space predominantly servicing the company’s frozen seafood product line in Peabody, Massachusetts, as well as Stavis Miami, located in Miami, Florida. In January 2018, the company appointed Chuck Marble, Stavis’ president and former CEO of Elevation Brands, to the CEO role following an investment from Dutch fishing company IMV. Former CEO Richard Stavis moved into a new role as chief sustainability officer and director of purchasing.
