Reston, Virginia, U.S.A.-based Starkist has appointed Chae-Ung Um as its new CEO, effective in 2023.
Um is currently the corporate senior vice president of procurement strategy, digital procurement transformation, and general procurement at LG Electronics in Seoul, South Korea, where he has worked for the past 14 years.
Andrew Choe, who has served as Starkist's CEO since 2014, will continue to serve in that role through the end of 2022. Um’s first day will be 1 November, 2022, and will he will formally take over as president and CEO on 1 January, 2023. In its press release, Starkist did not say what Choe's role will be at the company after he steps down.
Starkist is one of America’s top suppliers in pouched seafood. It is known for its pouched tuna and recently debuted Smart Bowls Tuna pouches. During Choe's tenure, he oversaw the company's move of its corporate headquarters from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, U.S.A., and its guilty plea to a charge of fixing the prices of canned tuna, along with Bumble Bee and Chicken of the Sea.
The company is owned by Dongwon Industries, a Seoul, South Korea-based conglomerate.
