Barcelona, Spain will be the host city of the next SeaWeb Seafood Summit, taking place 18 to 20 June, 2018, the SeaWeb organization and Diversified Communications, the co-presenters of the conference, announced on the final day of this year’s summit in Seattle, Washington, U.S.A.
The summit, which is billed as “the world's premier conference on seafood sustainability,” brings together global representatives from the seafood industry with leaders from the conservation community, academia, government and the media for in-depth discussions, presentations and networking around the issue of sustainable seafood.
“Barcelona, a seaport proudly and publicly committed to its own sustainability, will be the first European host city the summit returns to for an encore – the 2008 event was held there as well,” Diversified Communications said in a press release.
Previous editions of the conference with prior editions have been held in Seattle, Malta, and New Orleans. The 2017 event, which took place this week in Seattle had more than 560 attendees representing 36 countries.
“While conversations sparked there, they will no doubt continue throughout the year, and the 2018 edition of the Summit will reopen them in person, in a new time and place, with stakeholders freed from day-to-day distractions and focused on finding collaborative solutions,” Diversified said. “This will all happen in the context of an information-rich educational program on the latest seafood policies, practices, and trends. The program will offer a mix of keynote, daily plenary presentations, and interactive breakout discussions on topics ranging from traceability and transparency to business and management, aquaculture, and IUU/FIPS.”
As in previous years, the annual Seafood Champion Awards will be announced at the 2018 conference. The awards celebrate individuals and organizations working to make the seafood industry more sustainable.
